STENDEN SOUTH AFRICA
Stenden South Africa, formerly known as EISS International, has recently undergone a major transformation in the way of a new corporate identity. This is as a result of the two universities in Holland, namely, CHN Leeuwarden and the University of Drenthe amalgamating to form what is now Stenden University with the result that all other satellite campuses adopt the Stenden name. This institution of private higher learning is justifiably proud of their new corporate identity as it underpins its strong ties with its international mother company, Stenden University in Leeuwarden Holland. The new name and identity was officially launched on campus at a glittering gala dinner, held earlier this month. Students from Stenden South Africa were responsible for the organization and the catering of the event and in this way, displayed the expertise they have obtained during the course of their studies.
Stenden South Africa, located at the old Grand Hotel which overlooks the Indian Ocean in Port Alfred, is unique in that it is the only private educational institution in South Africa that offers a comprehensive B.Com degree in hospitality management. This degree incorporates various disciplines including subjects such as Law, Accountancy, Economics, Culinary Sciences, Computer Applications and a range of diverse modules. Newly introduced modules include the Advanced Wine Module and the Tourism Module.
Stenden South Africa is also affiliated to the Mantis Collection group of companies of which the world renowned Shamwari Game Reserve is just one of many. The Wildlife module takes place at Madolo’s Retreat which is situated on the grounds of this award winning reserve.
Stenden is a popular choice for international students as a result of the Grand Tour programme but South African students are also offered a fantastic opportunity to spend a semester abroad at one of the global campuses in exotic destinations such as Thailand, Bali and Qatar. This exchange programme enhances the institution’s multi-cultural view of hospitality education and provides a dynamic educational experience at an international level. This exchange programme has been instrumental in influencing the career paths of various students.
It is now formalized that Stenden South Africa is an international institution and this is in keeping with the international standards that are being produced. According to students residing on campus, the small, close knit community and the personal attention received from the highly qualified lecturers all adds to the attraction of studying at this internationally acclaimed educational institute. The institution plays an important role in Port Alfred and their position in the community has become more entrenched as they train leaders in hospitality management.
